HP Tablets - Installing, Opening, and Uninstalling Apps (Android KitKat, Jelly Bean)
This document applies to HP and Compaq tablets with Android 4.4/KitKat and 4.2/Jelly Bean operating systems.
An app, or application, is a software program -- for example, a game -- designed to run on a mobile device. Apps can serve a range of purposes, including entertainment, education, productivity, and more. HP tablets that use the Android operating system can only run Android apps, which are available from the Google Play Store (in English).
This document guides you through the basics of installing, opening, and uninstalling apps on your HP tablet.
note:Depending on the version of Android installed on your tablet, some of the images in this document may not match your tablet exactly.
Installing a new app on your HP tablet
Find new apps for your tablet in the Google Play Store (in English). You must be connected to a wireless network and signed into a Google Account before you can access the Play Store.
note:Certain apps may not be compatible with your tablet. On the Google Play Store app page of an incompatible app, a message stating Your device isn't compatible with this version appears, and the Install option is missing. Any Android device that does not meet the requirements or restrictions for an app cannot install or use the app.
Google Play Store features both free and paid apps. The process for installing apps that are available free of charge is slightly different from the process of installing a paid app. For information about installing apps that require payment, see Get help with Google Play (in English) from Google Play Help.
If the app you want to install is a free app, use the following steps to install the app on your tablet:
-
On the Home screen, touch the All apps icon, and then touch the Play Store app.
-
To search for an app, touch the search icon at the top of the page, and then type the app name or a keyword.
-
Scroll down to see the available apps, and then touch an app to select it.
The app page offers details about the app features, customer reviews, and other information.
-
Touch Install.
-
Read the app permissions, and then touch Accept & download. The app downloads and installs on your tablet.
Once installed, the app is added to the All apps list.

Apps can be opened from the All apps list, Home screen, favorites tray, Google Play Store, or the Recent apps list. Use any of the following methods to open an app:

-
Touch an app icon on the Home screen or in the favorites tray to open the app. For information about adding and removing apps on the Home screen and in the favorites tray, refer to the HP support document Exploring Android and Customizing the Home Screen.

Uninstalled apps, including paid apps that you previously purchased, can be reinstalled at any time from the Google Play Store (in English).
